Thom Simonson is a Licensed Social Worker in New York State with 14 years experience in the mental health field. His wide ranging experience spans from work with emotionally disturbed children to seriously and persistently mentally ill adults in a variety of settings. He was an Office Operations Supervisor on Census 2000 for enumeration of group living facilities for he mentally ill and other "special places" in his district.

Most notably, he worked for three years on the September 11th Recovery effort with one of the charities in New York City doing outreach for a major mental health initiative. Thom's work in this area broadened his interest in public policy and ignited his desire to write about politics, society, and current events as they effect the average citizen.

A card carrying member of Amnesty International and the American Civil Liberties Union, Thom has a strong commitment to civil rights which strongly influences his choice of subject matter for his articles.

Thom is a contributing writer to a number of areas at Suite101.com and has recently released an eBook entitled Brooklyn Rules.
